  • PublishedJuly 3, 2025

Dubai-based carrier flydubai has officially commenced construction of its first dedicated Aircraft Maintenance Centre, marking a strategic leap in its operational growth. This milestone project will significantly enhance the airline’s in-house capabilities, reduce aircraft downtime, and support the expanding fleet. Located in Dubai South, the multimillion-dollar facility is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026, positioning flydubai at the forefront of regional aviation infrastructure.

The announcement comes at a pivotal time for the airline, which continues to grow rapidly in fleet size, route coverage, and technical sophistication. The new maintenance centre reflects flydubai’s commitment to operational excellence, innovation, and support for Dubai’s global aviation leadership.

Strengthening Operational Efficiency

Spanning 32,600 square metres, the Aircraft Maintenance Centre will feature a fully equipped aircraft hangar, advanced support workshops, and modern office facilities. This development is designed to provide end-to-end maintenance solutions within a single, integrated space.

The move aligns with flydubai’s long-term strategy of reducing reliance on third-party service providers and increasing turnaround efficiency. By handling more technical work internally, the airline expects to significantly cut operational delays and optimize fleet availability.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, emphasized the project’s importance during the ground-breaking ceremony:

“This investment marks a significant milestone for flydubai. The new Aircraft Maintenance Centre will play a key role in the next phase of our growth, supporting increased maintenance needs as we expand our fleet. It also reaffirms our long-term commitment to innovation, efficiency, and Dubai’s leadership in aviation excellence.”

Location Advantage at Dubai South

Strategically located at Dubai South, the facility will benefit from its proximity to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC)—which is set to become the world’s largest airport upon completion. Dubai South is an integrated aviation and logistics hub that offers seamless access to a global network of aerospace infrastructure.

The location provides flydubai with an ideal setting to conduct operations within a highly connected and innovation-driven ecosystem. The Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH), where the centre is being built, is already home to several international aviation players and offers world-class infrastructure.

The project was first revealed during the 2023 Dubai Airshow, following flydubai’s agreement with MBRAH to establish this advanced technical facility. The agreement reflects the broader strategy of investing in aviation excellence through collaborative partnerships and long-term planning.

Visionary Leadership Driving Aviation Growth

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by several key officials, including Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South. His remarks underscored the significance of the project to the broader vision of Dubai’s aviation sector.

“We are proud to witness the launch of flydubai’s new maintenance centre — a testament to the airline’s growth and operational advancement,” Al Zaffin stated. “This facility reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting aviation through state-of-the-art infrastructure and strengthens Du
