Dubai Launches Smart Corridor to Revolutionize Airport Passenger Experience

Dubai Police has rolled out advanced artificial intelligence (AI) radar systems across major roads and intersections, taking traffic enforcement to the next level. These systems go beyond the traditional speed cameras that most drivers are familiar with. They can now detect a wide range of violations, including speeding, running red lights, sudden swerving, lane violations, tailgating, distracted driving, and even illegal window tinting.
Authorities say the main goal of this rollout is to reduce accidents, save lives, and encourage safer driving habits. With heavy fines, black points, and even vehicle impoundments on the line, motorists in Dubai must be more careful than ever before.
Smarter Technology for Safer Roads
Dubai has built a reputation for using modern technology to solve urban challenges. From smart cameras to AI-powered policing tools, the city is a leader in embracing innovation. The new AI radar systems are another important step in this journey.
Unlike standard speed cameras that only capture one type of violation, these advanced radars are able to analyze multiple driving behaviors at the same time. They use sensors and artificial intelligence to read road activity in real time. This means that reckless maneuvers such as tailgating, driving on the hard shoulder, or crossing solid lines can now be caught instantly.
By combining precision technology with strict penalties, Dubai Police hopes to create a stronger culture of discipline and accountability on the roads.
Speeding Offences and Fines
Speeding continues to be one of the biggest causes of accidents in the UAE. The AI radar systems have been programmed to capture speeding violations at different levels, with fines and penalties increasing based on how much the driver exceeds the speed limit.
If a driver goes over the speed limit by more than 80 km/h, they face a fine of Dh3,000, 23 black points, and their car will be impounded for 60 days. Exceeding the limit by more than 60 km/h carries a fine of Dh2,000, 12 black points, and a 30-day impoundment. For those driving 50 km/h above the limit, the fine is Dh1,000, while going over by 40 km/h brings a Dh700 fine. Exceeding the limit by 30 km/h costs Dh600, and by 20 km/h costs Dh300.
The aim of these fines is not only to punish but also to encourage drivers to stay within safe speed limits and reduce reckless behavior.
Running Red Lights
Jumping a red light is considered one of the most dangerous violations in Dubai. AI radars installed at intersections can easily detect when a car passes through a signal after it has turned red.
The penalty for this violation is severe. Motorists face a fine of Dh1,000, 12 black points on their driving license, and their vehicle is impounded for 30 days. In Dubai, under Decree No. 30 of 2023, drivers must also pay Dh50,000 to release their impounded vehicle. This high release fee highlights how seriously the authorities treat red-light violations, as such behavior often leads to deadly accidents.
Lane Discipline and Tailgating
Maintaining proper lane discipline is another area where AI radars are making a difference. Drivers who fail to stay within their designated lane face a fine of Dh400. However, the radar does not just stop at catching lane drifting. It can also identify aggressive driving behaviors such as tailgating, sudden swerving, or driving on the hard shoulder.
Tailgating has long been a major issue on UAE roads. To prevent this, Dubai Police continues to remind drivers about the two-second rule, which means keeping at least a two-second gap between your vehicle and the one in front. This not only reduces the risk of accidents but also ensures smoother traffic flow.
Distracted Driving
One of the most common causes of road accidents today is distracted driving, especially when drivers use their mobile phones. AI radar systems are now advanced enough to detect hand movements and even identify the light from a phone screen.
If caught using a mobile phone while driving, motorists will face a fine of Dh800, four black points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. Dubai Police has repeatedly warned that no message or phone call is worth risking lives on the road.
Seat Belt Violations
The AI radars also play a key role in enforcing seat belt rules. They can accurately detect whether or not drivers and passengers are wearing seat belts, even at night or when clothing might disguise it.
Failing to wear a seat belt results in a Dh400 fine and four black points. Authorities stress that everyone in the vehicle, not just the driver, must wear a seat belt at all times. This simple step significantly reduces the risk of serious injury in the event of an accident.
Illegal Window Tinting
Window tinting is popular in Dubai because of the strong sun, but it is strictly regulated. AI radars can now identify cars with illegal levels of tint. The UAE law allows a maximum tint of 50 percent on side and rear windows, while the windshield must remain clear, except for a 15-centimeter strip at the top.
If a vehicle is found with illegal tinting, the fine is Dh1,500. In Dubai, the car may also be impounded, and to release it, the owner must pay Dh10,000 under Decree No. 30 of 2023.
Authorities advise drivers to always follow the approved limits or seek proper exemptions if needed, since excessive tinting can reduce visibility and increase accident risks.
Noisy and Modified Vehicles
Dubai Police also targets vehicles that are illegally modified to produce more noise or boost engine power. Such cars can disturb neighborhoods and increase road dangers.
Drivers of noisy or modified vehicles face a fine of Dh2,000, 12 black points, and a release fee of up to Dh10,000. By enforcing this rule, Dubai aims to maintain both public safety and peace of mind for residents.
Driving with Expired Registration
Another violation that AI radars can detect is driving with an expired registration. Many motorists may overlook this, but it carries penalties as well.
Drivers caught on the road with expired vehicle registration face a Dh500 fine, four black points, and seven days of vehicle impoundment. This encourages motorists to stay updated with renewals and ensures that vehicles on the road meet safety standards.
Why These Rules Matter
Dubai is one of the busiest cities in the region, with millions of residents, workers, and tourists using its roads every day. As traffic increases, so does the risk of accidents. By using AI radars, authorities are not only punishing offenders but also making a clear statement about the importance of safe driving.
The message is simple: follow the rules, avoid unnecessary risks, and contribute to safer roads. These radars are a way to protect all road users, including drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
The Future of Smart Traffic Enforcement
The AI radar rollout is part of Dubai’s larger plan to become a global leader in smart city solutions. In the future, these systems may be linked with more advanced features such as real-time alerts for drivers, predictive traffic flow analysis, and even AI-assisted emergency response.
By combining innovation with strict laws, Dubai continues to raise the standard for traffic safety. The city’s vision is not just about catching violations but also about creating an environment where responsible driving is the norm.
