Dubai RTA Launches Six Key Projects to Improve Traffic Flow

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced six major road and traffic improvement projects for October 2025. These projects aim to reduce traffic jams, make travel faster, and improve road safety across the city. They also support Dubai’s plan for a more modern, sustainable, and connected transport system under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
New Link Between Al Kifaf Development and Zabeel Tunnel
The RTA opened a new road connecting Al Kifaf Development to the Zabeel Tunnel. This road is designed to help traffic moving from Al Kifaf towards Zabeel. As part of the project, the tunnel inside the link was expanded from one lane to two lanes. This doubles the tunnel’s capacity, allowing more vehicles to pass through at the same time.
The upgrade is expected to reduce congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road and at the 2nd of December Interchange. It also improves access to nearby areas, making it easier for commuters to reach key destinations.
Expansion of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street
The RTA has also improved Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Al Khawaneej. A third lane was added to the existing two lanes. This expansion has already made traffic smoother and reduced delays at entry and exit points. Motorists and residents in the area can now travel faster and more comfortably.
New Bridge Connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Mall of the Emirates
A new 300-meter bridge has opened, linking Sheikh Zayed Road directly to the Mall of the Emirates. The bridge has one lane and can handle up to 900 vehicles per hour. It provides direct access for drivers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to reach the mall’s parking areas easily.
This bridge is part of a bigger project that includes expanded access roads, better intersections, and safer pedestrian and cycling paths around the mall. These improvements make traveling safer and more convenient for both drivers and pedestrians.
Truck Rest Areas Along Emirates Road
The RTA is building new truck rest areas along Emirates Road near Hind City. These rest stops will help truck drivers take breaks safely and manage long trips more comfortably. It will also improve road safety and traffic flow along this busy route.
New Cycling Track in Al Jaddaf
Another project under construction is a new cycling track in Al Jaddaf. This track aims to encourage cycling as a healthy and eco-friendly way to travel. It will make it safer for cyclists while also promoting sustainable transportation across the city.
Service Road Lane Addition on Sheikh Zayed Road
The RTA is adding a new service road lane on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Badaa Street. This lane will help reduce traffic congestion and make travel smoother for daily commuters. The new lane is expected to open by October 31.
How These Projects Support Dubai’s Future
All these projects reflect the RTA’s focus on improving Dubai’s road network. The authority says that better roads do more than reduce traffic jams. They save time, improve traffic efficiency, and support a higher quality of life for residents and visitors.
These upgrades also align with Dubai’s vision under the 2040 Urban Master Plan. The city is working to become one of the world’s leading urban centers, with smart roads, modern infrastructure, and better connectivity for all residents.
Key Benefits of the New Projects
