Dubai RTA Launches Tadreeb, A Smart AI Platform for Driver Training

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced Tadreeb, a digital platform that is transforming the way drivers are trained and licensed in the city. The new system uses artificial intelligence (AI) and smart digital tools to create safer, faster, and more transparent driving lessons.
With Tadreeb, Dubai becomes one of the first cities in the world to fully digitise driver training and licensing. The project reflects RTA’s vision of leading in smart and sustainable mobility, while also improving road safety and enhancing efficiency for both learners and driving schools.
A Smarter Future for Driving in Dubai
Tadreeb is part of Dubai’s larger ambition to be a global leader in technology-driven mobility. The system connects every driving institute in the city through one digital platform. All training records, routes, and results are stored centrally, making the process easier to manage and monitor.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, explained the platform’s importance:
“Tadreeb identifies the needs of trainees through data analysis, enabling us to deliver quality training and licensing professional drivers. It contributes to reducing road fatalities, enhances governance, and aligns with global best practices.”
This ensures that learners receive proper attention, instructors maintain consistent quality, and the government can track improvements in real time.
How the Tadreeb Platform Works
The Tadreeb system has redesigned every step of driver education in Dubai. Instead of using paper records or manual evaluations, everything is digital and automated.
Each learner is given a personalised journey based on their performance. Artificial intelligence reviews the data and helps instructors adjust lessons. All exams and assessments are handled within the platform, making them more accurate and transparent. Driving routes are also tracked electronically and connected to the central database, which provides a complete overview of training activities.
The result is a paperless, efficient, and fair process that benefits learners, instructors, and regulators alike.
The Scale of Driver Training in Dubai
Today, Tadreeb is already operating at a very large scale. It is active across 27 training institutes, supported by more than 3,400 instructors and 3,000 training vehicles.
Every year, around 250,000 learners train for their driving licenses in Dubai, completing more than six million hours of lessons. All of this training is recorded digitally within the Tadreeb system.
By managing such a massive operation in a fully digital way, Dubai has shown how technology can handle both volume and quality at the same time.
Achievements and Benefits
Since its introduction, Tadreeb has achieved several key milestones. Training has become more focused, waiting times for permits have gone down, and operating costs have been reduced. The system also ensures fair evaluations because everything is recorded and tracked digitally.
Some of the main benefits include:
- Higher quality of driver training
- Faster license and permit issuance
- Lower costs for institutes and trainees
- Transparent and accurate assessments
- Strong compliance, with 97% of trainers following standards
- Improved governance with smart monitoring dashboards
For learners, this means a smoother and more reliable journey to getting a license. For the city, it means safer roads and stronger governance.
International Recognition
Dubai’s Tadreeb platform has already gained recognition beyond the UAE. It is the first unified driver training system in the world endorsed by the International Commission for Driver Testing (CIECA).
In addition, Tadreeb won the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award, one of the most respected global awards for traffic safety. These honours show that Dubai is not only improving its own system but also setting an example for the world.
Role of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is at the heart of Tadreeb. The system analyses trainee performance and identifies strengths and weaknesses. It can detect risky driving behaviours early, giving instructors the chance to correct them.
AI also evaluates instructor performance to make sure the training being delivered is consistent and of high quality. By collecting and studying data, the system helps build safer habits among drivers while ensuring that trainers also meet international standards.
Supporting Dubai’s Digital Transformation
Tadreeb is not only about driver training. It also supports Dubai’s wider digital transformation strategy and its ambition to become a leading smart city.
By removing paperwork, the system saves time and resources. It reduces the carbon footprint by cutting out unnecessary manual processes. It also builds public trust in government services by showing that advanced technology can be used to improve everyday life.
This platform is a key part of Dubai’s mission to become a smarter, safer, and more connected city.
The Future of Tadreeb
The RTA is planning to expand Tadreeb even further. Future upgrades will make the system smarter, faster, and even more personalised.
Some of the upcoming improvements include:
- Deeper AI integration for predictive insights and training suggestions
- More personalised training journeys for learners and professional drivers
- Advanced governance tools with stronger automated checks
- Possible expansion to other emirates or international markets
These steps will ensure Tadreeb stays ahead of global best practices and continues to set benchmarks in driver training.
Why Tadreeb Matters for the UAE
The UAE is working toward its Vision 2030 goal of becoming one of the safest countries in the world. Road safety is a major part of this plan, and Tadreeb is helping to achieve it.
By producing better-trained drivers, reducing accidents, and ensuring stronger governance, Tadreeb is shaping the future of mobility in the country. It also raises professional standards for commercial drivers such as taxi operators and delivery staff, ensuring that safety is consistent across all categories.
This makes Tadreeb not only a local success but also a national milestone in the UAE’s journey towards global leadership in smart mobility.
