Dubai continues to lead in transport innovation with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiling major enhancements to its public bus services. The initiative integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and smart systems into operations, demonstrating a significant leap toward more efficient, sustainable, and customer-centric urban mobility. By incorporating cutting-edge technologies, the authority has optimized costs, improved schedule adherence, and increased commuter satisfaction across the emirate.
According to Al Tayer, the public bus network now covers around 88% of Dubai, utilizing a fleet of 1,390 buses. These buses perform approximately 11,000 trips per day and cover a combined daily distance of about 333,000 kilometres. These numbers not only reflect the scale of operations but also showcase the effectiveness of data-driven solutions in maximizing service quality and minimizing inefficiencies.
Seamless Integration with Other Modes of Transport
RTA’s strategy to promote public transport usage hinges on the seamless integration between bus services and other key transport systems in Dubai. The current fleet of 1,390 public buses serves a total of 187 routes across the city. This comprehensive route system includes 110 that cater to both urban and rural areas, 64 metro link routes that connect with metro stations, 13 intercity routes serving commuters between emirates, and seasonal routes such as those leading to Global Village. On average, the buses complete 11,000 trips daily, transport over 500,000 passengers, and cover more than 333,000 kilometres. Importantly, the punctuality rate of these buses exceeds 77%, reinforcing the success of smart transport systems in maintaining service reliability.
