Dusty Skies and High Winds to Hit UAE This Week
Weather fluctuations are a constant in the UAE’s diverse climate, but this week brings particularly dramatic changes across the Emirates. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has reported that dusty and partly cloudy conditions are expected to dominate the skies, accompanied by a notable drop in temperatures. Citizens and residents are advised to prepare for reduced visibility, strong northwesterly winds, and rough sea conditions. These weather patterns are forecasted to persist from midweek into the weekend, affecting daily activities and possibly travel plans.
Significant Temperature Drop and Dusty Skies
On Wednesday, the UAE will experience dusty and partly cloudy conditions. According to the NCM, these weather changes will come hand-in-hand with a noticeable dip in temperatures. The dust in the atmosphere, stirred by active wind systems, may lead to discomfort for those with respiratory issues. Residents should take necessary precautions and avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, particularly during peak dust hours. The dust is expected to obscure the sun for most of the day, creating a hazy skyline over major cities.
Strong Northwesterly Winds and Visibility Concerns
Winds will be blowing predominantly from the northwest. The NCM forecasts moderate to active northwesterly winds, occasionally reaching strong intensities, especially over the sea. Wind speeds are expected to range between 15 to 30 kilometres per hour but can surge to 50 kilometres per hour at times. These winds will significantly stir up dust, leading to reduced horizontal visibility across coastal and inland areas. In some regions, visibility might drop to less than 3,000 meters. Such conditions can be hazardous for drivers, especially on highways and open roads. Authorities advise motorists to drive cautiously and keep headlights on when visibility is compromised.
Sea Conditions in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman
The Arabian Gulf is expected to experience turbulent conditions, ranging from rough to very rough seas. Maritime warnings have been issued, cautioning seafarers and fishermen to stay updated on real-time advisories. The Sea of Oman will also face rough wave activity. From 12:30 pm on Tuesday until the same time on Wednesday, wave heights in the Arabian Gulf are projected to reach up to 7 feet in depth. The fluctuating sea state is likely to affect marine activities, and boat operators should take necessary precautions. Beachgoers are also advised to be cautious, as rip currents and large waves can pose serious risks.
City-by-City Temperature Forecast
Across various emirates, the temperature forecast reflects the nationwide cooling trend. In Abu Dhabi, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 36°C, while the minimum will settle around 27°C. Dubai will witness a similar trend with a maximum of 35°C and a minimum of 28°C. Sharjah is also predicted to have a maximum of 36°C and a minimum of 25°C. Ajman is expected to record a maximum temperature of 34°C and a minimum of 28°C. In Umm Al-Quwain, residents will experience a maximum of 35°C and a minimum of 25°C.Ras Al Khaimah will be slightly warmer with highs of 38°C and lows of 22°C. Fujairah, known for its relatively warmer climate, is forecasted to hit a high of 42°C and a low of 34°C. Al Ain, the inland city, will also experience warm conditions with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 38°C to a minimum of 25°C. These fluctuations highlight the varying microclimates across the UAE, influenced by both topography and regional weather systems.
Dusty Conditions Extend Into Thursday
Looking ahead to Thursday, the weather pattern remains relatively unchanged. The NCM forecasts continued dusty to partly cloudy skies. Winds will shift slightly, blowing from northwesterly to southwesterly directions. These winds are expected to be light to moderate but will turn active during the day, again stirring up dust across many areas. Speeds will range between 10 to 25 kilometres per hour but may peak at 40 kilometres per hour in some locations. The Arabian Gulf will remain rough to very rough, while the Sea of Oman will continue to be rough. These conditions may persist well into the evening hours. Authorities urge caution for outdoor workers and recommend that employers monitor weather alerts to safeguard worker health and safety.
Weather Outlook for Friday and the Weekend
By Friday, a slight improvement is expected in the overall weather condition, although dust may still linger in parts of the country. The day is predicted to be clear to partly cloudy. Night-time and early Saturday morning will see increased humidity, which could lead to fog or light fog formation, especially in coastal and internal regions. This fog can create hazardous driving conditions, particularly for early morning commuters. Winds will continue to shift from southwesterly to northwesterly directions and will remain light to moderate, becoming active during the daytime with speeds of 10 to 25 kilometres per hour and gusts reaching up to 40 kilometres per hour. The Arabian Gulf is expected to be moderate to regular, while the Sea of Oman is forecasted to be in a regular state. While conditions are not as intense as earlier in the week, precautions are still necessary, especially during early morning hours when fog formation is likely. Residents are advised to check daily weather updates and remain vigilant during this transitional weather phase.
