Lulu Retail Boosts UAE Green Energy with Solar Power Initiative
Lulu Retail has taken a big step toward a greener future in the UAE by installing solar power systems across several major facilities in Dubai. In partnership with Positive Zero, this project highlights Lulu’s commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and supporting the country’s long-term environmental goals.
Key Locations Equipped with Solar Power
The solar rollout covers five key locations: Lulu Hypermarkets in Al Warqa, Dubai Investment Park (DIP), and Rashidiya, as well as the Lulu Central Logistics hub in DIP and the Lulu Regional Office in Dubai. Together, these sites will generate around 37 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy over the lease period.
Environmental Benefits of Solar Energy
Using solar power reduces Lulu’s reliance on conventional electricity sources. This change is expected to cut about 25,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year. To put it in perspective, this is the same as planting over 400,000 trees or removing nearly 6,000 gasoline-powered cars from the roads annually. The project also saves nearly 58,000 barrels of oil and is equivalent to recycling almost 9,000 tons of waste instead of sending it to landfills.
The solar panels can produce enough electricity to power more than 3,300 homes every year.

Positive Zero will manage the delivery and maintenance of the systems to ensure they run efficiently. The signing ceremony took place at Lulu’s Regional Office in Dubai. Huzefa Moosa Rupawala, Regional Director of Business Development at Lulu, and David Auriau, CEO of Positive Zero, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Salim M.A., Group Director of Lulu Global Operations, and Mohammed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain, Chairman of Positive Zero, attended the event.
