UAE Launches First Global Cybersecurity Centre with Google Cloud
  • PublishedApril 10, 2025

As cyber threats become more advanced and pervasive, countries across the globe are investing in digital infrastructure to stay ahead of malicious actors. Among these, the United Arab Emirates has once again positioned itself at the forefront of innovation and security. In a landmark partnership with Google Cloud, the UAE Cyber Security Council has announced the launch of the first Global Cyber Security Centre of Excellence in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is a testament to the UAE’s determination to become a world leader in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity.

UAE’s Vision for a Secure Digital Future
The UAE’s leadership has consistently emphasised the importance of technological progress and innovation as key pillars of national development. The launch of the cybersecurity centre aligns perfectly with the country’s broader strategy to become a global hub for innovation, particularly in AI and cybersecurity. Backed by the UAE Cabinet, the centre in Abu Dhabi is designed to strengthen digital infrastructure, boost national cybersecurity capabilities, and foster international collaboration.

This initiative reflects the government’s strategic vision of nurturing a secure and advanced digital ecosystem that supports businesses and institutions. It showcases the UAE’s commitment to equipping the nation with advanced tools to protect digital assets, ensure cyber resilience, and inspire global confidence in its tech-driven initiatives.

Strategic Collaboration with Global Tech Leaders
The collaboration between the UAE and Google Cloud represents a significant milestone in international cooperation on cybersecurity. It was shaped during the official visit of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the United States, where he met with top executives and thought leaders in the tech industry. These discussions laid the groundwork for initiatives aimed at harnessing the potential of AI and cybersecurity to accelerate sustainable development and innovation.

Through this partnership, Google Cloud will not only help establish the centre but also offer critical support in the form of infrastructure, training, and startup acceleration programmes. These joint efforts are expected to elevate the UAE’s cybersecurity profile on a global scale, while also empowering its residents and organisations with the knowledge and tools to combat cybercrime.

Empowering Startups and National Talent
One of the most impactful aspects of the initiative is its focus on startups and young entrepreneurs. Google Cloud’s 2025 accelerator programme, developed in collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s Hub71, will provide 25 high-potential startups with intensive guidance on scaling strategies and business model optimisation.

All startups within the Hub71 ecosystem will also benefit from generous Google Cloud credits. Top-performing companies may access up to $300,000 in credits, the highest tier available globally. This will allow emerging businesses to leverage world-class cloud technology to build secure, scalable, and innovative digital solutions.

In addition to supporting startups, the initiative places a strong emphasis on upskilling the national workforce. The centre will offer cutting-edge training programmes designed by Mandiant, a cybersecurity arm of Google Cloud. These programmes will use real-world simulations, hands-on labs, and expert guidance to prepare participants for complex cyber threats.

World-Class Training for a Resilient Workforce
The UAE Cyber Security Council has made workforce development a top priority. Through the Centre of Excellence, a wide range of training modules will be available for cybersecurity professionals, government employees, and students. Mandiant’s 20+ years of experience in handling advanced cyberattacks will be utilised to deliver comprehensive, real-time training courses.

These offerings include immersive simulations, cyberattack scenario-based drills, and flexible self-paced online learning. Participants will gain practical skills and certifications that are immediately applicable in real-world environments. This investment in human capital will create a strong foundation for a sustainable and resilient digital future.

Driving Economic Growth Through Cybersecurity
Beyond enhancing national security, the centre is also expected to deliver major economic benefits. Research from Access Partnership indicates that improved cybersecurity measures could save the UAE at least $6.8 billion in potential cybercrime losses by 2030. Additionally, the initiative is projected to support more than 20,000 specialised jobs and attract up to $1.4 billion in foreign direct investment.

These projections highlight the importance of cybersecurity not just as a protective measure, but as a critical enabler of economic progress. A safe digital environment encourages more innovation, increases investor confidence, and enhances productivity across all sectors.

Abu Dhabi as a Global Innovation Hub
With the launch of the Global Cyber Security Centre of Excellence, Abu Dhabi is cementing its position as a regional and global hub for cybersecurity and digital innovation. The centre will focus on fostering collaboration between government entities, academic institutions, and private companies to address evolving cyber threats through joint research, policy development, and information sharing.

This collaborative spirit is designed to extend beyond the UAE’s borders, promoting regional and international partnerships to create a safer digital ecosystem worldwide. By leading from the front, the UAE sets an example of how technology and strategy can be used together to solve one of the most pressing issues of the modern era.

A Visionary Step Toward Global Cyber Excellence
The launch of the Global Cyber Security Centre of Excellence is a monumental step in the UAE’s digital journey. Through strategic partnerships, forward-thinking policies, and investments in people and infrastructure, the UAE is not only safeguarding its digital future but also paving the way for global cybersecurity leadership. With Google Cloud as a key partner, this initiative will help shape a more secure, innovative, and resilient digital world—starting from the heart of Abu Dhabi.
